Crosstown Elementary School
Vancouver
Project info
Completed in 2017, Crosstown Elementary School exemplifies a harmonious blend of modern design and functional educational spaces. Designed by Francl Architecture, the building’s massing and articulation are thoughtfully crafted in response to its surroundings, including the adjacent residential towers and Andy Livingstone Park. The structure features a distinctive three-storey box perched above an open, transparent ground floor. Its south façade is animated by colorful reading nooks in 3 different Aluminum Composite Material (ACM) colours that extend from the classrooms, creating engaging visual connections with the street while fostering interactive learning and study environments.
The main entrance of the school is marked by two prominent frames that lend easily to the use ACM, designed to channel natural light deep into the building. The integration of colored ACM panels adds a playful and vibrant touch but also contrasts with the surrounding neutral-toned panels in white and dusty charcoal.
